Reliable House Furnishers has been part of the heart and fabric of Portlaoise since 1969.

Founded by Billy Rowan, what began as a small local business on Station Road has grown into one of Co. Laois’s longest-standing family furniture stores — trusted for beds, sofas, carpets, flooring and blinds.

Interestingly, the shop didn’t start out selling sofas or beds. In its earliest days, it stocked bicycles and wireless radios. As the needs of local families changed, the business evolved into the furniture and home furnishings store it is today.

From the beginning, it was a family affair. Billy worked alongside his brothers Harry and Douglas, building a reputation not just for quality products, but for honest advice and genuine customer care. Later, brother Ken also became involved.

Through changing trends and the rise of big retail chains, Reliable House Furnishers stayed true to what made it successful: fair prices, dependable service, and looking after every customer who walked through the door.

Many customers have furnished entire homes with us, returning again and again — sometimes across generations. We’re proud to be a local furniture store in Portlaoise that still believes in doing things properly.
